Membership
Definition
An active membership is the backbone to any organization's vision and mission. More precisely, the collective expertise, the combined support, and the professional service of ISAP members are the major driving force in sustaining this international forum for worldwide asphalt paving technology exchange. Only through its active members can ISAP catalyze and encourage innovation, address global issues, and foster environmentally safe and economically sound applications for asphalt paving. The distinctly global and non-exclusive approach of the Society must be reflected by an international membership representing all stakeholders in the asphalt paving industry, i.e. users and producers as well as individuals and organizations.
Current Activities
Since 1990 the Society averaged about 220 members. A one time high of 526 voting members occurred in 1992 as a result of signing on 313 members during the 7th International Conference registration. The decrease in membership may be in part due to the extended break between major ISAP events. The decrease in membership reflects a need to more strongly articulate what the Society has to offer in terms of professional satisfaction and value for money. Recent initiatives to enhance the membership include:
- Reduction of time between major conferences from 5 to 4 years and an additional series of focused symposia on dates between the major conferences,
- Review of the membership categories and the introduction of a corporate membership,
- Use the ISAP website and other practical means to identify and strengthen benefits of membership.
The current membership from 31 countries is composed of 56% from the private sector, 25% from universities, and 19% from government agencies.
The countries with the highest representation are:
USA (36%), Japan (9%), Canada (8%), France (5%), Australia (4%), Italy (4%), Saudi Arabia (4%), Sweden (4%) and United Kingdom (4%).For further information see also the Membership Committee.
Goal Statement
The main goal is the development and maintenance of healthy membership, which is critical to any organization's effectiveness and survival.
