Project Title: Investigation of Asphaltic Mixes in terms of Noise, Permeability, Friction, and Durability

Abstract

(Key objectives, description of work, expected outcome)

Recently, the use of pavement surfaces designed to reduce traffic noise has become a common practice. Reducing noise levels by proper selection of surface type is considered a more effective strategy compared to sound walls since the noise is treated at the source. In the last decade, open graded mixes have been placed in California as well as other states to benefit from their noise reducing properties. However, their performance under different traffic and climatic conditions has been very variable and there is not much known regarding their durability, noise reducing properties, safety, and life cycle costs.

This project aims to determine and compare the noise, durability, permeability, and friction properties of the open graded mixes with other type of asphaltic mixes.
